Pennsylvania State Police Members
Killed in the Line of Duty
Troop D, Butler Area
Private Robert V. Myers -
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police on February
15, 1912. He was patrolling a flooded district against
looting, when he was accidentally shot and killed on
March 28, 1913. Private Myers was 22 years
of age.
Private Andrew Czap -
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police on August 1,
1917. He was sent to Indiana County to arrest four men
for highway robbery. On April 28, 1918,
Private Czap was shot and killed in an ambush. Private
Czap was 25 years of age.
Private Bernard S.C. McElroy -
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police
on January 1, 1923. He was on motorcycle patrol in the
City of New Castle, Lawrence County on December
21, 1924, and was involved in a collision with
an automobile. Private McElroy was 25 years of age.
Private Bertram Beech -
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police on May 1,
1924. While on patrol at McCoytown Crossing in Mercer
County, on December 10, 1925, his patrol
vehicle was struck by a train. Private Beech was 28
years of age.
Corporal Brady C. Paul -
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police
on January 7, 1926. He was setting up a roadblock on
the Butler Highway, 3 miles east of New Castle, at Rose
Point, Lawrence County, accompanied by Patrolman Ernest
Moore. Corporal Paul and Patrolman Moore stopped a
vehicle with Ohio registration, when a woman, one of
three individuals in the vehicle, fired a pistol at the
two officers. Corporal Paul was killed on
December 27, 1929, by Irene Schroeder, who fired
the fatal shots. Patrolman Moore was wounded during the
altercation. Corporal Paul was 29 years of age.
Sergeant Joe B. Champion -
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police
on October 13, 1924. While patrolling on Route 8, 10
miles South of Butler, on July 13, 1936, he was involved
in an automobile collision. Sergeant Champion died on
July 15, 1936. Sergeant Champion was 36
years of age.
Private Floyd B. Clouse -
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police on August 1,
1946. Private Clouse, along with Corporal Harold Rice,
were detailed to serve a warrant on Edwin Stanyard, in
Beaver County, on November 2, 1953.
Stanyard shot and killed Private Clouse, and wounded
Corporal Rice. Corporal Rice was able to return fire,
and shot and killed Stanyard. Private Clouse was 29
years of age.
Trooper Albert J. Izzo -
Trooper Izzo was conducting an undercover
drug investigation in New Castle, Lawrence County, on
June 13, 1979. He was shot and killed during
a shoot-out with one of the suspects. Trooper Izzo was
35 years of age.
Trooper Frank J. Bowen –
Trooper Bowen was responding to a call for assistance on
October 26, 1983, in Mercer County. He
was involved in a collision with a truck tractor.
Trooper Bowen was 28 years of age.
Trooper First Class Blake T. Coble –
Enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police on January 11, 1988. Trooper First Class Coble was performing patrol duties on October 4, 2012, in Beaver County. He was involved in a collision with at truck tractor. Trooper First Class Coble was 47 years of age.
